Does stardust particles use world 3d positions?

I am trying to get the particles to interact with element 3D but overlaying the E3D layer and using it’s world position. This allows me to occlude the particles however it works one way so that it is either behind or infront of the 3d object. What I would like is to be in the same 3d space so the particles are coming around the object. Any ideas?
I know looking at how Element 3D in the video below at (12:36 mins onwards) interacts with Particular we could get this working somehow? I hope it’s something silly.

Hi Carl, you can have 2d / 3d particles and 3D object in the same space inside Stardust, you can also have textured particles using the Stencil color mode, and occluding other particles in the space. To combine the Stardust space with other 3d spaces, you can either export Depth from Stardust or import an external z,  its on the main Stardust effect under Z buffer – obstruction layer.
